Where you can actually ski

Ovindoli — Monte Magnola

The largest ski area in the Marsica. Eleven lifts, including an eight-seat gondola, two six-seat chairlifts and three three-seaters. Snowmaking covers much of the terrain. Ski school and rental are at the base. In summer it turns into a bike park.

Marsia, Tagliacozzo — no lifts

The lifts have been closed for years: there is no piste skiing here. What remains is a beech wood at 1,400 m, excellent for winter snowshoeing and for sledging on the meadows with children.

Questions

What skiers ask

How long does it take to reach Ovindoli?
Twenty-five kilometres, 29 minutes. It is a main road and is kept open, but from mid-November to mid-April chains or winter tyres are compulsory and genuinely needed.
Can you ski at Marsia?
No. The Marsia lifts have been out of service for years. The place is still good for a snowshoe walk in the beech wood or for sledging, but for actual runs you go to Ovindoli or Campo Felice.
Where do the skis go?
You park at the door and the entrance is private. Skis and boots come indoors with no stairs and no shared corridors.
Is the house cold?
Radiant panel heating, adjustable thermostat, blackout curtains in the bedrooms. Tell us your arrival time and we switch it on beforehand.
